The Central Coast Section’s October meeting was held at City of Ventura Community Hall. A sizeable crowd turned out to see Richard Herrera, P.E., from Ventura County, who discussed the Santa Rosa Road Traffic Signal Synchronization Project. Santa Rosa Road serves as a connector between the U.S. Highway 101 and several Cities in the County, and as such, carries significant commuter traffic. To improve access to the roadway from several residential areas and control speeds, the County staff developed a project consisting of interconnecting four existing traffic signals with four new traffic signals, and associated intersection geometry changes along a 3.5 mile stretch of the roadway. The project also included synchronization of the system to achieve a smooth traffic flow at 45 mph through the area. Richard discussed the planning phase with resident participation, the technical aspects and details of the construction phase, and the traffic improvements after implementation of the project. After the presentation the preparations for the 2012 Annual Meeting, which will be held in Santa Barbara, were outlined by the committee Vice Chair, Tom Mericle of the City of Ventura. Justin Link, the Section’s president, concluded the meeting with a last change sign up call for the Annual ITE Central Coast Section Golf Tournament, which was scheduled later that week.
