Dear Western District Members,

I’d like to begin this month’s message by recognizing Western District Member and ITE California SB 743 Task Force Chair Erik Ruehr. Erik’s work on this effort began under the now-dissolved Western District Legislative Committee and has culminated after several years in the final “ITE Guide to SB 743,” which is available at the e-Community forum and NorCal ITE. ITE International is in the process of reviewing the document to consider publishing as an official ITE Informational Report. While appreciation is extended to all who contributed, a special thank you is owed to Erik for his commitment to leading this effort that will undoubtedly serve as a meaningful resource for many members of our District and likely beyond.

With increasing vaccine availability and recent changes to CDC guidance, ITE International is rolling out guidance to our District, Section, and Chapter leaders for returning to in-person meetings. All meetings should adhere to CDC, State, and local guidance, but we are excited for Section and Chapter leaders to begin engaging their members to determine readiness for an in-person event in the coming months. The continuation of virtual engagement tools is also encouraged for those members who may not be able to attend an in-person event.

As a final reminder, June 15th is your last chance for the discounted early rate for the 2021 Joint International and Western and Mountain Districts (Virtual) Annual Meeting. Full registration is administered through ITE International. Registration for the Western District Family Night and Student/Young Professional events is FREE for all District members regardless of registration for the ITE International Meeting, but don’t forget to register separately at www.westernite.org/annualmeeting.

Sincerely,

Giancarlo Ganddini
President, ITE Western District
