Western District Members,

In case you missed the announcement, our 2021 ITE Joint International and Western & Mountain Districts Annual Meeting will be pivoting from an in-person meeting to virtual format due to several on-going challenges related to COVID-19. You can read the full message from ITE Executive Director and CEO, Jeffrey Paniati, here. Fortunately, we now have some experience hosting successful and engaging virtual conferences and our District LAC is continuing to explore creative ways to offer social opportunities. For those who were looking forward to exploring Portland’s bicycle paths and coffeehouses, we are pleased to announce that the 2023 ITE Joint International and Western District Annual Meeting will be held in Portland, OR.

ITE International has announced the winners of the 2021 Board Elections, who will assume office in 2022. The Western District extends our congratulations to:

  • International President: Beverly Kuhn, Ph.D., P.E. (F)
  • International Vice President: Rosana Correa, P.E., PTOE (F)

The 2021 Western District elections are also underway. We are pleased to have two excellent candidates for Secretary/Treasurer, Doug Smith and Justin Link. You can view a quick introductory video and hear their thoughts on ITE at our website here. Candidate statements can be found on our website and in the print edition of WesternITE. Ballots are scheduled for release on June 16, 2021 and will close on July 19th with the results to be announced at our Annual Meeting. Our complete list of candidates for office are:

  • President: Joe De La Garza
  • Vice President: Kimberly Leung
  • Secretary/Treasurer: Doug Smith and Justin Link
  • International Director: Neelam Dorman

A few final reminders on upcoming deadlines and activities – the Outstanding Student Award and Outstanding Transportation Educator Award are due April 15th to Jennylyn Tapat at jtapat@wilsonokamoto.com. Nomination forms can be found on our awards webpage. The Joint Sections Webinar Series on Diversity & Inclusion continues through April. Please visit the Western District webpage for more information and registration (free to ITE members).

I want to thank all of our Section leadership for their on-going efforts in adapting their operations to the current environment and our members for their continued engagement. If there is any silver-lining it’s that there has been increased opportunities for joint section meetings across larger geographic areas. I hope we carry these experiences into the future and continue finding new opportunities for making connections across our District.

There is much to look forward to. Wishing you and your families good health and strong spirits.

Sincerely,

Giancarlo Ganddini
President, ITE Western District
