The Western District Executive Committee met last week for a Kick-Off and On-Boarding meeting. We are excited to have Kimberly Leung join the Executive Committee next year and to have Mark Spencer represent the District on the International Board of Direction. Major topics of this meeting included closing our fiscal year 19/20, planning for excess revenues from our very successful virtual Annual Meeting, taxes, new advertising/sponsorship proposal, on-boarding new officers, re-chartering our student chapter, Mid-year Board Meeting planning (virtual), supporting the Student Leadership Summit at Cal Poly SLO, 2021 Join Annual Meeting in Portland, and looking ahead to our 2023 Annual Meeting in Central California.

We also have a few new Western District Committee Chairs! Pat Marnell will be our new Technical Chair, Ashley Kim will be our new Student Funding and Initiatives Chair, and Jenny Tapat will be our new Career Guidance Chair.

November is National STEM month! Please start thinking about some virtual activities you section/chapter can lead. The STEM subcommittee also has put together a list of activities and presentation templates for our members to use (ITE STEM). There are also great ideas that you can use at home with your families. I hope many of you will participate in various STEM activities throughout the month of November and I would love to see our Sections and Chapters organize bigger events. Please also use the Western District ITE video as you need for your outreach, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZONQYdBpa-k.

Please mark your calendars for the 2021 Student Leadership Summit to be hosted virtually by Cal Poly SLO! The meeting will be held January 15th-17th and you can find more information here: https://sls2021cpslo.weebly.com/. I’m looking forward the virtual program our amazing students put together and hope to have many more professionals attend and volunteer with the virtual format!

It’s also never too early to start looking forward to our Annual Meeting! We’ll be in Portland July 18th-21st with ITE International and the Mountain District.
