As the 2023 school year kicked off, the Student Endowment Fund would like to highlight some of the great work the local student chapters have been doing! See below to get a little glimpse of their year so far and what they’re looking forward to in the upcoming year!

University of Washington

  • What was your approach for kicking off the school year?
    • Our approach for kicking off the school year was all about making a scene! We posted flyers, presented in classes, and started an Instagram page (@ite_uw) to get the word out about ITE. In addition, we hosted a Kick-off event with professionals from the ITE Washington State Section where we introduced the student chapter followed by a professional mixer with food and drinks. The kick-off was a success with over 30 students in attendance from both engineering and planning majors.
  • What has been your favorite event this school year so far?
    • Our favorite event this school year so far was volunteering at Transportation Choices’ Tuxes & Trains. Our students got to support the success of this fundraising event while engaging and networking with leaders, advocates, and professionals in the transportation industry in Washington State.

  • What is one event you’re looking forward to in the new year?
    • One event we are looking forward to in the new year is the Student Leadership Summit at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. We are so excited to bring over 10 students from the University of Washington to network and engage with other students and professionals!

Oregon State University

  • What was your approach for kicking off the school year?
    • Going into this school year my approach to ITE has been just to spread the word. Recruitment was our biggest goal this year and I am happy to say we’ve had higher attendance rates so our efforts have been successful! We also are getting a more diverse age range of students which is great because OSU ITE has historically been mostly grad students but we now have plenty of undergrads as well.
  • What has been your favorite event this school year so far?
    • My favorite ITE event this year was our 2nd General Meeting where I presented about Internships/Working in Transportation. I was motivated to present about this topic to help other students connect with transportation companies and hopefully get internships/job offers. This was also the first event I’ve hosted for ITE and I was happy with the turnout and feedback from other students. (Image from this meeting is attached)
  • What is one event you’re looking forward to in the new year?
    • I’m really excited for SLS at Cal Poly SLO! We are sending quite a few people including some students who are newer to ITE so I’m excited to introduce them to my ITE friends from other schools. SLS is a great networking event and it is so much fun to hang out with other student chapters.

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo

  • What was your approach for kicking off the school year?
    • Cal Poly ITE’s strategy at the start of the year was to get ITE’s name out in as many places possible as early as possible. Club fairs, emails, merch, instagram — you name it, we were advertising!
  • What has been your favorite event this school year so far?
    • Our favorite event so far this year was the SLO Regional Transit Authority Bus Roadeo. Every year, RTA hosts a community event where bus operators compete in a skills course. It has become a tradition for Cal Poly ITE to volunteer to judge the competition.
  • What is one event you’re looking forward to in the new year?
    • What we look forward to most next year is hosting SLS from February 2nd-4th! We can’t wait to see so many familiar faces and build new relationships.
