From February 2nd – 4th, 2024, Cal Poly ITE is hosting the 11th annual ITE Western District Student Leadership Summit! We hope to welcome nearly 200 transportation-based students and professionals to beautiful San Luis Obispo, California, to foster the values of leadership, community, and innovation. As we seek to build upon the successes of previous Summits, Cal Poly ITE is honored that the 2024 SLS marks several important milestones. The very first Student Leadership Summit was hosted by our chapter in February 2014 – almost ten years to the date! We are excited to welcome back many of the Founders of the Summit, the original group of students that initiated this annual tradition. In addition, 2024 marks the 50th anniversary of the Cal Poly ITE chapter. We are ecstatic that our founder, Ray Davis, and many other proud Cal Poly alumni, including Randy Iwasaki, will be back home for SLS.

San Luis Obispo provides a unique learning experience for SLS attendees – as the home of Caltrans District 5, Regional Transportation Authority (RTA), San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport, San Luis Obispo County Organization of Governments, the San Luis Obispo Railroad Museum, and many private planning and engineering firms, there is no shortage of transportation opportunities in our Central Coast town. While we have an eventful schedule planned for the Summit including a downtown SLO scavenger hunt, a student competition, and numerous technical presentations, we hope all attendees will take the chance to explore San Luis and fully appreciate its beauty and uniqueness.

Cal Poly ITE is thrilled to present both students and professionals with an experience that inspires and motivates. We are confident the 2024 Student Leadership Summit will uplift younger professionals to seek leadership in every aspect of their lives, help them understand the meaning and significance of networking and fostering relationships with their peers, and inspire them to improve the design and planning standards and policies we have today.
