The University of California, Los Angeles Student Chapter will be hosting the 2025 Student Leadership Summit on January 31, 2025 – February 2, 2025. I hope you are as excited about SLS 2025 as we are! SLS is a weekend full of connections, growth, and new memories with other like minded individuals. The Student Funding Initiatives Committee is happy to continue to support this effort.

Here are some words from Kerry Sempelsz, President of UCLA ITE.

Is there anything that you have learned from previous SLS that your team is looking to improve for this SLS?

“This Student Leadership Summit is planned by students, for students. We wanted the organize the summit yet, having more technical, interactive workshops with deliverables for students to collaborate and report back to at the end of the sessions. SLS has always been a special time for students to meet – we were intentional with programming more time for connection.”

What was your thought process for planning the events that you did?

“Planning our field trips, we wanted to showcase the breadth of Los Angeles’ transportation. With opportunities to learn at the City of Los Angeles’ Advanced Transportation System and Coordination (ATSAC) Center, the City of Santa Monica’s Big Blue Bus depot, and at the City of Beverly Hills Department of Public Works, there are a variety of takeaways for students. From ATSAC’s innovative legacy from the 1984 Olympics to learning about signage and strippage in the Beverly Hills public right-of-way (and catching a trolley-ride!), we hope to excite students to pursue a career in transportation. Additionally, our speaker line-up (available online) showcases innovative problem-solvers and strategic thinkers that work to improve mobility in Southern California. I hope to share that spirit with our students!”
