We may be a small Section, but we have a dedicated group of members who are committed to bringing our “island style” to the rest of the District. Many of you may have heard about (or even attended) the 2006 Western District Annual Meeting held in Waikiki on the island of Oahu. Since that event, we have been asked numerous times about when the next meeting will be in Hawaii. Last year we finally gave the rest of the District our answer by bidding on the 2020 Western District Annual Meeting. We are so proud to be partnering with the Southern California Section to bring you another District Meeting in Hawaii. The dates have already been set for June 28-July 1, 2020 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Waikiki so go ahead and mark your calendars already!
In addition to winning the bid for the 2020 District Annual Meeting, this past year has been a momentous year for our Section for a number of other reasons. We have been fortunate to receive visits from some of our Western District celebrities…we welcomed Rock Miller, past District International President, and Mark Spencer, current District President, in November and are excited to see Karen Aspelin, current International Director, this month! In addition, our members have been playing integral roles in developing major transportation projects like the modernization of the Kahului Airport on the island of Maui, implementation of Complete Streets projects on the island of Kauai, and the construction of a rail transit system on the island of Oahu.
In June, a few of our Section members will be heading to the Western District Annual Meeting in San Diego. Come and meet us…find out more about the Aloha spirit…and help us plan for another great meeting in Hawaii!
