President’s Message

Hello Western District Members,

I hope you are continuing to stay positive and making the best of our new normal. A mentor shared a phrase that I hope you all have heard and are aiming for as we move towards the COVID-19 recovery process, “getting back to better.” I hope that you all leverage the many lessons we have learned throughout this process to improve our workplaces and lifestyles.

Adapting has become a key focus for us at the District as well. We are disappointed to not be able to attend an Annual Meeting in Hawaii this year. It has been a difficult process to work through for the board and especially the LAC but we are all excited for our Virtual 2020 Annual Meeting! The LAC has worked incredibly hard to deliver this meeting and we’ve so excited to see how welcoming you all are of the change. We have over 200 registrants already and have sold out of sponsorships! We also have over a dozen vendors participating in our Virtual Exhibit!

I want to thank our sponsors: Econolite, McCain, Applied Information, Cisco, Cubic-Trafficware, Iteris, Wilson Okamoto, W-Trans, R.M Towill Corporation, Austin Tsutsumi, Phoenix Pacific, SSFM International, Michael Baker, DKS Associates, MaxGreen, Sanderson Steward, Lee Engineering, EtherWAN, Kittelson & Associates, Advantec, KOA, Kimbley Horn, TJKM, and Rick Engineering.

I also want to thank our vendors: Econolite, McCain, Applied Information, Cisco, Cubic-Trafficware, Iteris, ELTEC, BOSCH, Carmanah, LaneLight, ImageSensing, Horizon Signal, INRIX, and QFree. Our Virtual Exhibit will have vendors available to talk to about their products virtually along with all their product reference information. We will also have some great raffle prizes for visiting the Virtual Exhibit and connecting with our vendors!

We will have events planned for students and young professionals including a virtual Kell Competition and Traffic Bowl! We will also have a student/faculty Leadership Forum and a Career Guidance Q&A session. And we’ll put on another virtual Mitey Race on Saturday!

Please register for the Joint Annual Meeting, it’s $50 for members with access to two and a half days of technical sessions.

Please also remember to vote! You will receive ballots on May 28th. Please add ElectionsOnline ( to your safe senders list so the ballot doesn’t go into your spam folder. Our candidate profiles are available online:
