The city of Las Vegas is accepting applications for Project Engineer. This position leads, oversees and participates in the more complex and difficult work of staff responsible for complex engineering work involving engineering planning, design, investigation and construction of public works projects; prepares engineering plans and specifications; ensures infrastructure designs for either private or public development comply with regional and local master plans; and performs a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.
This immediate recruitment is to fill a vacancy in the City Engineer, Transportation Engineering and Environmental Divisions of the Department of Public Works. However, it may be used to establish a list for future Project Engineer positions within the entire City of Las Vegas.

Example of Duties
-
- Leads, plans, and reviews the work of civil engineering consultants and staff while managing assigned projects.
- Directs master planning studies and reports for future public works expansions, including traffic and flood control.
- Prepares and reviews contracts, plans, drawings, and specifications according to legal and engineering standards.
- Proposes and negotiates design changes, providing revisions or conditions of approval when necessary.
- Verifies engineering computations and preliminary layout designs derived from field and survey data.
- Plans capital improvement projects, designs public works modifications, and obtains required construction easements or permits.
- Serves as project liaison with outside agencies and other city departments or divisions.
- Represents the division on various committees and specialized work groups.
- Resolves complex, sensitive issues and public complaints efficiently from start to finish.
- Supervises designated staff by managing training, overseeing work, and evaluating performance standards.
- Assists with job interviews and the selection process for new applicants.
- Establishes design criteria for project staff and outside engineering consultants.
- Coordinates procurement and contracts, including material research, vendor selection, and consultant design reviews.
- Prepares grant applications for state and federal project funding and delivers presentations.
- Manages project budgets by submitting recommendations, monitoring expenditures, and reporting financial variances early.
- Conducts on-site reviews of design and construction projects to document adjustments.
- Operates engineering equipment, computer design tools, drafting systems, and planning models.
- Maintains technical records and assembles data to prepare comprehensive technical reports.

Minimum Requirements
- ExperienceNo professional (post-license) civil engineering experience is required.
Training
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major in civil engineering or a closely related field.
License and Certificate
Possession of a valid driver’s license on the date of application, and maintenance thereafter.
Possession of a valid license as a professional civil engineer in the state of Nevada within six months of the date of appointment, and maintenance thereafter.
